(Salem, IN) This Saturday, October 2nd ARCA makes its much anticipated return to the historic High Banks of Salem Speedway, for the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 Presented by Scott County Tourism. If a racing series had a home track Salem Speedway would be just that for the ARCA Menards Series. With 106 visits since 1955, Salem Speedway holds the record for the most ARCA events in history.
With such a great and deep-rooted history at Salem it is no surprise that this year ARCA chose the High Banks to be the site of its official throwback race. All ARCA cars will rock a special throwback paint scheme honoring some of the greats who have went through the series.
An amazing driver entry headed to Salem, will be the most prolific winner in USAC Silver Crown history, Kody Swanson. Swanson, who broke the All-Time Silver Crown win record at Salem in 2018, returns quite often with this trip being his third time this year. He received his first Super Late Model win earlier this year to add to his impressive Salem resume. Swanson will be a fan favorite for many heading to watch the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200 Presented by Scott County Tourism. In a paper-thin points battle between ARCAs top two drivers, Ty Gibbs & Corey Heim, adding in the amount of talent from Swanson should cause problems for both young drivers who are chasing a championship.
Grandson of Hall of Fame Football Coach and NASCAR team owner, Joe Gibbs, Ty Gibbs has had a historic ARCA season as he has 10 wins, rookie of the year, and most laps lead this season all wrapped together nicely. The only thing he is missing would be the series championship which he is in line for, but not by much, with Corey Heim just 26 points behind him.
Gibbs also has the last ARCA win at Salem Speedway back in 2019. This season has seen both Heim and Gibbs completely dominant much of their other competitors with 16 wins between both in what will the 19th race of the season. Salem could be the make-or-break point for the season championship for one of the two young stars.
There is a little bit of bad blood between the two competitors as Gibbs spun Heim out in the finishing laps of the Calypso Lemonade 200 at Winchester Speedway. Ultimately taking the lead from Heim and going on to win the race. To this point there has been no retaliation for this spin and coming into a 26-point battle for the championship tempers could flare at Salem, and the question must be asked “will we see retribution?”
